The 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings schedule was released Tuesday, laying out how the team will get from Game 1 to 82.
New this season is a trip to Salt Lake City to play the Utah Hockey Club, formerly the Arizona Coyotes. The Wings host Utah on March 6 and play in Utah on March 24.
The Wings open, at home, on Oct. 10, vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. Then they play the Nashville Predators — the team that just signed Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei — followed by the New York Rangers — and then the Rangers, who are coming off an Eastern Conference finals appearance, and then the Predators again. That's a tough opening five games right there.
The first big trip comes in mid-November, when the Wings go straight from Pittsburgh to play all three California teams. On the flip side, for a change, the Wings are home for a 3 p.m. start against Calgary on Black Friday — a day that usually finds them playing a road game.
The traditional New Year's Eve game this year is against the Penguins, with an 8 p.m. start.

The Wings play in western Canada at the end of January and start of February. The break for the Four Nations Face-off tournament — replacing the traditional All-Star Game — runs Feb. 9-21, after which the Wings play a rare back-to-back with both games at home. There are 10 back-to-backs altogether.
March 1 brings the outdoor game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
The Wings wrap up the season on the road, playing the finale April 17 at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
