On Saturday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, the second day of action tipped off in the annualSection 7summer basketball tournament. Over 2000 athletes competed in the building once again on day two and below are some of the standouts I saw from the state of Arizona.
Player of the Day: Cameron Holmes Cameron Holmes 6'6" | SF Millennium | 2026 State AZ , Millennium: Certain players just exude confidence when they step out onto the court to play a game. On Saturday, that confidence was clear as day by 2026 wing Cameron Holmes Cameron Holmes 6'6" | SF Millennium | 2026 State AZ . In the Tigers first matchup of the day against preseason No. 8 Mater Dei, Holmes dominated the game as he scored 28 points had 10 rebounds and moved the ball well finishing with five assists. In Millennium’s second matchup against Bishop Gorman, it was more of the same as Holmes scored 18 points and had seven rebounds as he led the Tigers to an 83-57 victory that vaulted them into the final of their bracket on Sunday against nationally ranked Archbishop Riordan.
Uriah Tenette Uriah Tenette 5'10" | PG Prescott | 2025 State AZ : There may not be another prospect in the state that elevated their stock on Saturday more than the crafty Prescott point guard. In an early morning matchup against Washington power Curtis, Tenette had an efficient 25 points on 75% shooting while pulling in four rebounds and having three steals. It was an all-around performance that continued in his second matchup of the day against Rancho Cucamonga (CA). Tenette in that matchup pulled in six rebounds and dropped 31 points in a variety of ways that showcased his game as he knocked down a couple of threes and was able to get downhill.
Nolan Brown Nolan Brown 5'9" | PG Perry | 2025 State AZ : Just as he has done for the last three years for Perry, once again on Saturday Nolan Brown Nolan Brown 5'9" | PG Perry | 2025 State AZ was making the winning play and doing the little things to make his Pumas successful. Brown in the Pumas first game of the day against Smoky Hill (CO) stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points and six rebounds but it was his tenacious effort defensively to disrupt the game and his ability to make the right reads on offense that were the key for the Pumas. In their second matchup of the day against Rainer Beach (WA), Brown’s effort defensively was massive for the Pumas as he finished with three steals and three additional deflections as well.
Colton Watson Colton Watson 6'6" | SF Sandra Day O’Connor | 2026 State AZ : In the course of a basketball game, little plays go a very long way in determining whether or not a team can win a game. Watson on Saturday had a good chunk of big plays, but it was the little things he did that stood out. In a big matchup against California power Redondo Union, Watson had 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four blocks. The O’Connor wing impacted the game on both ends as once the Eagles fell behind by double digits early, they switched to a 3-2 zone with him at the top of the key and his effort played a huge role in O’Connor’s almost come from behind victory.
